Dr. M Sankaran

Dr. M Sankaran is an experienced Consultant Physician specialising in Diabetes, based at the Annai Amaravathi Hospital in Vallioor, Tamil Nadu.

After completing his MBBS in 1982 from Tirunelveli Medical College, Dr. Sankaran commenced private practice in August 1982. He then joined government service in 1984 at the Vadakkankulam Primary Health Centre (PHC). He served at various rural PHCs in Vallioor, T. Kallikulam, and Thirukurungudi in the Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu. He retired from government service in April 2016.

Dr. Sankaran obtained the postgraduate DMCH diploma from the Indira Gandhi Open University, through Govt. Medical College, Madurai. He also completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Diabetology (PGDHSc - Diab.) from Annamalai University in the first batch (2006). In addition, Dr. Sankaran underwent a six-month course endorsed by the American Diabetes Association at the Coimbatore Diabetes Foundation under the guidance of Prof. Dr. A Sundaram and Dr. V Sekar. He is also trained in evidence-based diabetes management and diabetic foot.

Dr. M Sankaran received the Best Doctor Award in 2014, which was presented to him by the National President of the Indian Medical Association. He is a member of the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) and attends Dr. Mohan's Update on Diabetes every year.

Dr. Sankaran regularly conducts diabetes screening and education activities in rural areas to create awareness among the rural population. He has conducted Retinopathy Screening Camps along with Aravindh Eye Hospital & Agarwal Eye Hospital, Nagercoil.

Dr. M Sankaran is blessed with three children, all of whom are doctors in various specialities. His spouse, Mrs. Parvathi Sankaran, is the Managing Director & Administrator of Annai Amaravathi Hospital. Every year, the hospital observes World Diabetes Day by organising different activities and health camps.
Dr. M Sankaran plans to establish a complete health care centre for diabetic patients in rural areas, as well as a multispeciality hospital, with the support of the Muthuveeran Amaravathi Trust.
